Resonating Fields brings together a definitive array of Greenfield's pioneering work and encompasses incomparable images of the precision and power of the human body in motion. For this exhibition, the images are collected into series that together transcend any one fixed single image. Each gallery becomes a resonant field of phrases and rhymes, themes and configurations. This presentation of Greenfield’s oeuvre brings a fresh perspective and new interpretation to her classic Black and White work.

This series sets the lithe and graceful form of the dancers in an unexpected narrative. The dancers, as seen through Lois’ lens, seem to take on angelic or demonic identity, either flying through the heavens or plunged into the underworld. These poetic figures reveal themselves as creatures playing out a mythic and eternal drama.

In the accompanying exhibit of Greenfield’s first monograph “Breaking Bounds”, Chronicle Books, USA and Thames & Hudson, Ltd. UK 1992, Greenfield aimed to liberate the dancer from the dance. This iconic collection of black and white, square-format images arose through a unique collaboration which began in the 1980’s. Unrestrained by choreography, Greenfield and the dancers pushed to the absolute limits the boundaries of both photography and dance which lead to the most inventive representations of dance in the history of photography
